In a post on the PlayStation blog, Vice President of PlayStation Brand Marketing John Koller has laid out a detailed explanation of everything going into PlayStation 4 firmware update 4.50.
The most major new feature is that the PlayStation 4 will now have external HDD support for hard drives up to 8TB with USB3.0 for storing your favorite games, movies and music. This a major upgrade for the PlayStation 4, finally catching up the Microsoft’s Xbox One which has had this feature since 2014.
Other new features detailed int he post include custom backgrounds for in game screen shots as well as an update to the quick menu to make it more useful when inviting friends to parties.
Lastly, features such as the ability to post on the PlayStation activity feed, a simplified notification list and the ability to play 3D Blu-Rays on PSVR were also added.
There is no date yet for Update 4.50 but you can expect more news from it as it goes out to beta testers and it’s official date is announced in the coming weeks.
